UNM United Way Campaign

President Bob Frank

Part of what makes The University of New Mexico a great place to live, work, and study is our community spirit, our genuine concern for our neighbors and our willingness to help those in need; it’s what we do every day. I am very proud to be part of such a caring, committed, and giving team.

The partnership we have with United Way of Central New Mexico is another way we give back to our community and help those in need. I recognize that charitable giving is a personal decision and that your participation in the United Way campaign is optional. I would, however, like to say thank you. With your help we raised $1.12 million for United Way in 2013. We appreciate all of the generous contributions made last year, and are encouraging all our staff and faculty to consider participating this year.

I'd like to point out two key reasons why we continue to offer United Way of Central New Mexico (UWCNM) as a payroll deduction option:

It's Simple. A gift to or through UWCNM is the easiest way to support a broad range of health and human services in our community. You can give to the UWCNM Community Fund, to any non-profit of your choice, or both. When you give using UWCNM, 100% of your gift goes where you choose thanks to the Cornerstone Program that covers the administrative support of UWCNM.

Community Solutions. UWCNM uses knowledgeable independent volunteers to determine where your Community Fund gift is invested. These people work hard to evaluate and monitor programs. They distribute funds only to those programs that prove their successes in helping people in our community. Please consider the Community Fund as an important part of your giving.

In 2014-15, Community Fund grants supported 107 programs, totaling $4,200,000. The programs touch the lives of more than 250,000 of our neighbors. These programs:

  • strengthen families,
  • provide education,
  • eliminate hunger,
  • prevent family violence,
  • serve seniors and those homeless, disabled or ill.

Every contribution counts, every gift makes a difference. Thank you for your continued support.

Give So We Can LIVE UNITED

UNM’s faculty, staff and students have demonstrated unprecedented generosity in support of our community. Last year our UNM United Way campaign raised $1.12 million to help those in our community.

This year’s honorary chairs are Marjori Krebs, Associate Professor Department of Teacher Education; Jamie Silva-Steele, Chief Executive Officer Sandoval Regional Medical Center; Ava Lovell, HSC Senior Executive Officer for Finance and Administration, Steve McKernan, Chief Executive Officer UNM Hospital, Paul Krebs, Vice President Athletics and Connie Beimer, Government Relations. With their leadership, and the support from all of us our goal is to increase participation and continue our generous commitment and support for those in the community.

We hope you will consider making a contribution. For more information on United Way or the campaign, feel free to browse through the information on this site.

Our UNM United Way campaign runs October 13 through November 21, 2014.
